On August 6, 2021 at approximately 9 p.m.
SMPD patrol officers assigned to the Santa Monica Pier were flagged down regarding a subject who was acting erratic and stealing items from pier vendors. The reporting party stated the suspect, later identified as Frank Hutton had stolen his violin during his performance and thrown it off the pier. Hutton was later detained by officers and booked for petty theft and vandalism.
