Crime Watch is a weekly series culled from reports provided by the Santa Monica Police Department. These are arrests only. All parties are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

MONDAY, JUNE 25, AT 8:40 P.M. Santa Monica police officers responded to the 1300 block of the Third Street Promenade — McDonald’s — regarding a report of an attempted kidnapping. When officers arrived, they spoke with the family of an 11-year-old boy who said the child went to the McDonald’s unsupervised. While he was waiting in line, he was approached by a woman who was allegedly acting irrational and began asking the boy, “Don’t you want to come with me?” The boy told the woman that he was with his father, hoping it would scare the woman off. It didn’t, police said. The woman started walking towards the boy, who ran around the counter and hid behind the cash register. He then called his brother on his cell phone, who was with his family on the promenade. As the boy tried to explain what was happening to store employees, the woman began to scream, “That’s my baby,” police said. The boy then got even more frightened and ran though the fast-food restaurant’s kitchen. Workers tried to hold the woman back. She became physical, but eventually left when a security guard approached. The woman was located a few blocks away. She was identified by store employees and the child, who said he was afraid she was going to kidnap him and kill him. The suspect was identified as Kellie Ann Martinez, 44, of Santa Monica. Her bail was set at $65,000\. She was booked for child stealing and assault and battery.

MONDAY, JUNE 25, AT 11:30 A.M. Officers responded to the 1400 block of Montana Avenue — Wild Oats — regarding a petty theft that had just occurred. When officers arrived, they spoke with store employees who said that a man walked into the market, grabbed several packages of sushi, ordered a drink from the juice bar and then sat down and had lunch. When approached by store security, the man said he would pay for the items once he finished shopping. But he did-n’t, employees told police. They said the man finished eating, then picked up some more juice and walked out of the store without paying for the items. He was detained outside the store by security. The man did not have any money to pay for the items so he was arrested for shoplifting. Store employees said the man ate and drank around $90 worth of merchandise. The suspect was identified as Jeramiah Shea Page, 27, of Santa Monica. His bail was set at $17,500\. Police said Page had a couple of warrants.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 27, AT 11:05 A.M. Officers on routine patrol were driving past the corner of Lincoln and Santa Monica boulevards when they noticed a man defacing a bus schedule posted for riders. When officers approached the suspect, he admitted to vandalizing the bus schedule and a nearby fire hydrant, as well as other areas in the city. The suspect was arrested for vandalism. He was identified as Daniel Edward Mahler, 23, from Michigan. His bail was set at $1,000.

SUNDAY, JUNE 24, AT 6:20 P.M. Officers responded to the 200 block of Pico Boulevard after receiving a report of an attempted robbery that had just occurred. When officers arrived, they spoke with the victim who said he was eating a hot dog and minding his own business when two transients — a male and a female — asked him for money. When the victim said he didn’t have any change to give, the two transients allegedly began to verbally threaten the victim, saying over and over again that he had to have money since he bought his hot dog. The victim, fearing he was in danger, continued to make his way down the street towards a bowling alley. At one point, the female transient pulled out a 10-inch knife and pointed it towards the victim in a threatening manner, police said. At that point, the victim ran into the bowling alley and called police. The suspects fled on foot, but one was arrested a day later on Fourth Street. He was identified as Robert Eddie Blake, 25\. His bail was set at $50,000\. He was booked for attempted robbery. Police are still searching for the female suspect, described as an African-American in her late 20s, 5 feet, 5 inches tall, thin with brown eyes and a dark complexion. At the time of the alleged attempted robbery, the woman was wearing a white headband, gold and black shirt, black pants and white sandals, police said.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 27, AT 3:35 P.M. Officers responded to the 1200 block of Third Street after receiving a report of a man selling marijuana on the promenade. When officers arrived, they located the suspect who had a display set up and was selling medicinal marijuana without the proper permit. Officers detained the suspect and collected several large Ziploc baggies filled with marijuana. The suspect also had numerous smaller baggies with various price tags on them, ranging from $5 to $50, police said. The suspect was identified as Timothy Christopher Thiel, 35, a transient. His bail was set at $20,000.

TUESDAY, JUNE 26, AT 11:45 A.M. Officers responded to the 1900 block of Lincoln Boulevard — EB Games — regarding a robbery. When officers arrived, they spoke with an employee at the video game retailer who said two men walked into the store and took several video games and tried to leave without paying. When the store employee approached the two suspects, they threatened physical violence, turning it into a robbery instead of shoplifting, police said. The employee decided to back off and let the suspects leave. He then called police. A short time later, the suspects showed up at a video game store in Santa Monica Place and tried to get refunds for the stolen games. Realizing the games were stolen, a store employee called police and the suspects were apprehended. They were arrested for robbery and possession of stolen property. They were identified as Jody Glenn Johnson, 26, and Jason Hertado, 24, both of Santa Monica. No bail was set, police said.
