Crime Watch is a weekly series culled from reports provided by the Santa Monica Police Department. These are arrests only. All parties are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 11, AT 11:25 A.M., Santa Monica police officers stopped a suspicious vehicle at the corner of Cloverfield Boulevard and the I-10 Freeway. Witnesses reported seeing the car being driven through the Sunset Park neighborhood, as if the occupants were casing the area looking for homes to burglarize. Officers approached the vehicle and found several pairs of gloves in the car as well as crowbars and prybars. The suspects in the vehicle were placed under arrest for conspiracy to commit a crime, burglary and possession of burglary tools. The driver, who was also arrested for driving without a license, was identified as William Saulsberry, 18, from Los Angeles. No bail was set because he was on probation, police said. The other two suspects were juveniles, one a male, 17 years old, and the other a female, 16 years old.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 9, AT 2:17 A.M., An officer conducted a traffic stop at Lincoln and Olympic boulevards. During the stop, officers conducted a consensual search of the car and found what appeared to be marijuana on the passenger side floor board. Officers also found a small pill bottle that contained a tablet that tested positive for MDMA, or Ecstasy. The driver was placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance and for a parole violation. The passenger was arrested for possession of narcotics and possession of marijuana. The driver was identified as Jerome Green, 28, of Los Angeles. No bail was set for green because of a parole hold, police said. The passenger was identified as Derrick Ellis of Los Angeles. His bail was set at $10,000.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 9, AT 7:31 A.M., Officers responded to a radio call of an assault with a deadly weapon that just occurred in the 1300 block of the Third Street Promenade. When officers arrived, they made contact with the alleged victim who said he and a friend were involved in an argument with a man who tried to stab them with a pen. The suspect struck the victim in the hand with the pen and then fled on foot, police said. Officers located the suspect in the 1200 block of Fourth Street and placed under arrest for assault with a deadly weapon. The victim refused medical treatment at the scene. The suspect was identified as Ronald Evans, 32, a transient. His bail was set at $30,000.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 9, AT 3:24 A.M., Officers observed a suspicious vehicle in the area of Yale Street and Santa Monica Boulevard. Officers stopped the driver for a traffic violation and a subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of a glass light bulb, which is commonly used to smoke methamphetamine. On the floor of the car officers found a partially filled soda bottle containing a baggy filled with a white powder that later tested positive for crystal meth. Officers placed the suspect under arrest for possession of meth and drug paraphernalia, as well as destruction of evidence for tossing the meth in the coke bottle in an attempt to dilute it, police said. The suspect was also on parole so no bail was set. The suspect was identified as Tanner Brewer, 45, of Canyon Country.

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 10, AT 12:26 P.M., Officers responded to the 1200 block of the Third Street Promenade — the Apple Store — regarding a possible theft suspect in custody. When officers arrived, they made contact with store security who said the suspect walked into the store to exchange several items that were purchased at another Apple Store. An employee recognized the suspect from a prior theft and warned security to watch him in case he tried to steal again. Security observed the suspect remove several Bluetooth headsets from their packaging and then walk out of the store, failing to pay for the items. Security stopped the suspect and brought him back in the store. At that point the suspect became combative. He was placed under arrest by police for commercial burglary and probation violation. Store employees believed the suspect was stealing goods from various Apple Stores and then returning them for cash or other items. The suspect was identified as Jose Berrios, 35, of Sherman Oaks. His bail was set at $20,000.

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 10, AT 1:08 P.M., An officer on routine patrol in the 2200 block of the beach noticed a blue Ford Mustang parked with its driver’s side door open and a blanket and other items piled on the roof. The officer ran the license plate number and discovered the Mustang was reported stolen. The officer pulled up behind the Mustang and activated his headlights. At that time the officer discovered a female seated on top of a male in the driver’s seat. Both were taken into custody. The officer learned that the car was stolen in August in Los Angeles. The owner allowed a prospective buyer to take the car for a test drive. When the buyer did not return a few hours later, the owner reported the car stolen. Officers determined that the female suspect was not aware of the theft and she was released. The male suspect was placed under arrest for grand theft auto and held on an Immigration and Naturalization Service detainer, police said.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 11, AT 11:02 A.M., Police responded to a radio call of an assault with a deadly weapon that occurred at a bus stop in the 700 block of Pico Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers rendered aid to the victim, who was lying on the bench bleeding from the torso area. Witnesses said that there was a commotion and two people were arguing. A struggle ensued and the suspect pulled out a large knife and stabbed the victim. The suspect fled on foot and was apprehended a short time later by officers canvassing the area. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The suspect was placed under arrest for attempted murder. He was identified as Leon Burton, 24, of Los Angeles. His bail was set at $1 million. The knife was not recovered.
