An SMPD Officer was driving southbound on the 1400 block of Ocean Avenue, when his vehicle’s Vigilant License Plate Recognition (LPR) software notified him of a stolen vehicle in his vicinity. The Officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and approached the driver of the vehicle. The driver made several nonsensical statements and showed paperwork that he had rented the vehicle from Hertz Vehicles, however he had not returned the vehicle and was now living in it. John Francis McGavisk was booked for 503 PC - Embezzlement (felony) and later released with a citation.
