At approximately 3:35 a.m.
The Santa Monica Police Department dispatch received an assist call from CHP dispatch. They requested any available SMPD units to check for a possible traffic collision on the eastbound I/10 freeway near Lincoln Blvd. SMPD units were first unit on scene and discovered that a fatal traffic collision had occurred in the #1 lane of the I-10 (eastbound) just west of Lincoln Blvd. (Motorcyclist v. Ped). SMPD coordinated a traffic break on the freeway along with the necessary traffic control. CHP arrived and took control of the investigation. The motorcycle rider was transported to a nearby hospital as a result of the crash. Initial reports suggest the victim may have been homeless but officials said the investigation is ongoing and no details have been released.
