Man arrested after police standoff at homeless housing facility

Crime Watch is culled from reports provided by the Santa Monica Police Department. These are arrests only. All parties are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

On July 14 at about 10:15 p.m.

Officers responded to the 1500 block of Ocean Ave for a reported person with a knife attempting to stab the reporting party. The victim was able to avoid physical harm.  Upon arrival officers contacted the victim and learned that the accused, Salvador Gonzalez from the Los Angeles area, began yelling racial slurs at the victim as he watched street performers near the entrance to the Pier. Officers located the accused, placed him under arrest for assault with a deadly weapon and public intoxication. Gonzalez remains in police custody with a future court date of 8/2/2022.
