Krystal Shepperd, 32 years old, is accused of walking into Forever 21 in the Santa Monica Mall, selecting a pair of red shorts, putting them on and walking out without paying. Mall security spotted Shepperd near the food court. After a scuffle resulting in both security guards suffering minor scrapes and abrasions she was placed in handcuffs and held until officers arrived. Upon their arrival SMPD collected statements from all parties and placed the suspect under arrest. Shepperd was booked at the Santa Monica Jail for battery and released with a citation to appear in court. Bail amount was set at $20,000.
