Officers responded to a Strong Arm Robbery at the Vons Market in the 700 block of Broadway. Store security had observed a male subject enter into the store with a purple backpack and place items into the backpack. The suspect walked past the cashiers not making any attempt to pay for the items they had placed inside the backpack. One outside, store security approached the suspect and advised him to go back into the store to pay for the items. The security guard attempted to grab the backpack and a struggle ensued. Other transients in the area came to assist the suspect. The suspect was able to gain free and run from the location. He was later found in the 1400 block of 7th Street and positively identified as the suspect. Cruz Francisco Galan, 23, from Hawaiian Gardens was arrested for robbery and disobeying a court order. Bail was set at $50,000.
