(Re: “Cops should learn laws on cycling,” letters, Nov. 29) When riding two, three or even four abreast for a long distance, you are not overtaking and passing another bicycle or motor vehicle proceeding in the same direction. You are not preparing for a left turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway. You are not avoiding conditions (including, but not limited to, fixed or moving objects, vehicles, bicycles, pedestrians, animals, surface hazards or substandard with lanes) that make it unsafe to continue along the right-hand curb or edge.

Your are creating a large safety hazard, being a jerk and not using common sense/practical judgment. There is enough road rage on our freeways/roadways. Why do you want to create more?

A safety tip given by the CHP states: “Stay in a single file when riding with others.” Why would any bicyclist want to anger a person driving a vehicle which is at least a 2-ton difference in weight?

Bicyclists are not special/entitled. Using common sense is a big factor when safety is involved. Criticizing the police/CHP does not put the bicyclist in the best of standings This only means now, anything the bicyclist do wrong and/or not up to bicycle law/code will be more strictly observed. This means a citation.
