"A Form to Return To: The Body as Form, Force, and Language" will be performed Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. and Sept. 14 at 2 p.m. at the Glorya Kaufman Performing Arts Center.
The production features dancers living with Parkinson's disease alongside musicians and poets in an exploration of the body as both vessel and voice. The performance examines the space between structure and surrender, constraint and creativity through poetry, somatic improvisation and multi-sensory practice.
"For these performers—each living, moving, and expressing the realities of Parkinson's Disease—this interplay is not metaphorical, but deeply lived," according to promotional materials. "Together they have crafted a performance that uses the idea of shape as a metaphor for effort and offering."
Creative Director Rachel Whiting and poet laureate Francine Ringold guide the performance, which introduces many first-time performers to a public stage. The work reimagines form as a living, changing language shaped by the forces of gravity and grace.
The event is presented by Invertigo Dance Theatre's Dancing Through Parkinson's program, the company's longest-standing community engagement initiative. The program provides weekly dance classes to people living with Parkinson's and other neurodegenerative, mobility and age-related conditions.
The Glorya Kaufman Performing Arts Center is located at 3200 Motor Ave. Free parking is available throughout the Vista Del Mar campus, with parking attendants directing traffic and guiding guests to the theater.
