The “Day of the Dead” will be celebrated this weekend at a local school. Edison Language Academy, a Spanish-language immersion program, is hosting its annual fall festival on Saturday, Oct. 29\. The free community event will feature live musical performances, authentic Mexican food, children’s entertainment, a costume parade, haunted house, rock climbing wall, games, crafts, plus a raffle for a chance to win $500.

It also will feature the largest Day of the Dead exhibit on the westside. Up to 15 altars will be created by Edison students in the Mexican and Central American tradition of remembering deceased loved ones. Some of the altars will honor casualties of war and the victims of recent natural disasters like Hurricanes Katrina and Stan in Central America.

The celebration will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Edison Language Academy, 2425 Kansas Ave. Entrance is free. Food, drinks and activities cost between $1 and $3 each.
