On Aug. 15 at about 12:30 p.m.
SMPD officers responded to the 1000 block of 4th Street after maintenance workers located an old pineapple style hand grenade in the crawl space underneath an apartment complex. Officers set up a perimeter and had the on-duty K9 officer complete an area check. The bomb squad was notified and the property evacuated. When the Sheriff's Department arrived on scene they determined the grenade was inert and recovered it.
