*By Janice Cruikshank El Segundo*

Most of us are concentrating on the president’s election, but it is very important to remember we have some California races to consider. The 53rd assembly district is one that is very important.

The ex-mayor of El Segundo, Mike Gordon, is running a well financed campaign. He has been working toward his goal for the past eight years, using his position as mayor in our little town.

He was expert when it came to spending taxpayers’ money on wasteful projects, giving away property, cutting deals with developers and distorting the truth. He did-n’t care about traffic and pollution, and despite what he says today, he will compromise the airport issue.

These are but a few of the legacies he has left us: a giveaway parking structure, a Main Street that cost millions with less and very difficult parking, a dry water well, a club house in limbo (that no one wanted torn down, but it sits empty after thousands of dollars were spent on plans for a “new” building and the AFB property was given to Hawthorne). His final act was laying the ground work for a huge development on the Allied signal property at Rosecrans and Sepulveda Boulevard.

It is bad enough what he did to a small community — just think what he will be able to do with the 53rd assembly district! We all deserve something better than this self-serving politician.
