A La Mirada man is in legal trouble after he allegedly got drunk, took a dump truck from a construction site, drove through a fence and dragged it a block before he smashed into several cars in the parking lot of an apartment complex off of Main Street.

Isaias Valenzuela, 32, was arrested for driving under the influence, misdemeanor hit and run, driving without a driver’s license, probation violation and an outstanding Santa Monica warrant, said Santa Monica Police Department Lt. Frank Fabrega.

At about 11:30 p.m., officers and Santa Monica Fire paramedics responded to the scene at 2100 Neilson Way, where they found a white dump truck had smashed through a fence and into several cars parked in the lot at 125 Pacific Street. Witnesses said Valenzuela attempted to flee before officers detained him. Paramedics treated him at the scene and then took him to a local hospital. After he was treated by doctors, Valenzuela was released to the SMPD, who booked him and held his bail at $15,300.

As officers were treating him at the scene, officers noticed a strong odor of alcohol resonating from Valenzuela and his speech was slurred, Fabrega said.

And if he wasn’t in enough trouble, Valenzuela could be charged with another crime — grand theft auto.

It’s unknown whether Valenzuela had permission to drive the truck, which is believed to have been parked across the street at the former Pioneer Boulangerie bakery. Valenzuela is a dump truck driver by profession. Police are checking with the truck’s registered owner to see if Valenzuela was authorized to drive the vehicle.
