LOS ANGELES (AP) — U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions has named former prosecutor Nicola Hanna as the interim U.S. attorney for the Central District of California, a broad area that includes Los Angeles and six other counties.
Hanna, partner at the international firm of Gibson, Dunn and Crutcher, was Assistant U.S. Attorney during the 1990s in the district that he will now oversee.
The appointment goes into effect Friday.
In a Wednesday press release, Sessions praised Hanna's record prosecuting drug traffickers and other criminals.
Hanna received his B.A. from the University of California, San Diego, and got a law degree from Georgetown University.
The Central District of California includes the counties of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo.
