Fall VAPA Highlights Showcase Student Excellence Across SMMUSD

Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District celebrates outstanding fall arts achievements, with dozens of students from Samohi, Lincoln and John Adams Middle Schools selected for prestigious California state honor ensembles and theater awards.

The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District has congratulated students, educators and arts programs across the district for an outstanding season of visual and performing arts achievements.

Twelve Santa Monica High School band and orchestra students have been accepted into the 2025 California Orchestra Directors Association Honor Orchestras following a competitive statewide audition process. Selected students include Alex Brandenberg, Grayson Fitzgerald, Amber French, Gregory Gee, Elle Guggenheim, Ryan Hajmomenian, Oscar Hughes, Eleanor Kim, Adeline Rader, Ian Rhie-Kim, Eli Tobel and Kyle Wang. These students traveled to the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California, Dec. 5-6 for rehearsals and a culminating concert.

The Santa Monica Theatre Department participated in the Drama Teachers of Southern California JV Division Festival Nov. 8, with both group scenes and the monologue entry earning second place awards.

Samohi Theatre's fall play, "The Play That Goes Wrong," received perfect scores from California Educational Theatre Association adjudicators for its Sunday, Nov. 16, performance. Eight actors, 12 student technicians and the full ensemble cast and backstage crew received certificates of merit.

Twenty-four students from Lincoln Middle School, John Adams Middle School and Santa Monica High School have been selected to participate in the 2025 All-State Music Ensembles through the California All-State Music Education Conference.

Lincoln Middle School students selected include Joshua Hochberg and Caleb Fitzpatrick. John Adams Middle School students include Indy Guggenheim, Ross Sullivan, Liam Gillespie-Breslo, Hailey Nosho, Elodie Barker, Isabel King and Charley McCain.

Santa Monica High School students selected include Eli Boreth, Eleanor Kim, Adeline Rader, Ian Rhie-Kim, Grayson Fitzgerald, Matti Scott, Elle Guggenheim, Leo Kelty, Nathaniel Chin, Eli Tobel, Zoey Jaffa, Harper McCallum, Karin Cervantes, Curtis DiMundo and Milo Smith.
