The Pacific Coast Highway closed at Chautauqua Boulevard Tuesday morning due to a car crash that occurred around 8 a.m.
Despite earlier reports that the crash near Will Rogers State Beach resulted in fatalities, CalTrans spokesperson Eric Menjivar said it was not fatal. Two individuals were hospitalized, Los Angeles Fire Department officials said.
PCH was closed northbound from Chautauqua and southbound from Temescal Canyon Road until 12:45 p.m., Menjivar said.
Traffic was backed up into Santa Monica and Malibu Tuesday morning as drivers were diverted onto side streets. Drivers traveling south on PCH were delayed more than an hour, while those traveling north were delayed about half an hour.
"Just avoid the area," Menjivar said. "Cancel your appointments."
