Faux Sweets, the Los Angeles-based handcrafted food-replica brand founded by Japanese American artist Mae Hirota, is launching its Japanese-style food-replica workshop series, hosted at the newly opened Albion Garden on Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice Beach.
Blending Japan's iconic "fake food" culture with the charm of European dessert aesthetics, Faux Sweets has gained global recognition for its meticulously crafted faux pastries and sweets. After years of engaging customers through its online shop and creative studio, founder Mae Hirota is inviting the public to experience this unique craft hands-on.
Beginning January 2026, guests can participate in immersive workshops that teach the art of creating hyper-realistic food replicas. These workshops are beginner-friendly, fully guided and include all tools and materials, a drink and food item from Albion Garden Café, a skincare sample sachet from Albion Garden and an optional hand or face spa experience.
"Fake food has always brought me joy — it's playful, nostalgic and deeply tied to Japanese creativity," Hirota said. "These workshops are my way of sharing that happiness and giving people a relaxing, hands-on experience in a space that feels warm, beautiful and inspiring."
Workshops will be held inside Albion Garden, a Japanese beauty-inspired concept store that merges skincare, lifestyle goods and a cozy café. Originally from Japan, Albion Garden's vision is to create a community destination where wellness, creativity and culture come together.
Registration for the workshop series opens Dec. 1. Space is limited and expected to fill quickly.
