A shout out of thanks to Gary Gordon and his merry band of tie-dyed Main Street Business Associates who ran the 7th annual Summer SOULstice. An all day passing parade of beautiful faces strolling “the Main,” free goodies from shopkeepers and the amazing guy singing Sinatra in front of Tom Foolery, the sweet petting zoo for the kids. Scene: Standing in one intersection, iconic editor Art Kunkin hawking his LA Free Press for hours (what stamina!), while at a nearby table, Jerry Rubin, anointing every citizen with a peace stamp, as the Dylan cover band HIghway 61 Revisited rips into “All Along the Watchtower.”

For an afternoon, if not a “Summer of Love,” it was a summer’s loveliness. All this as our ficus trees along Main Street provided cool canopies for conversation, nobody complaining about them blocking anybody’s view.
