The Santa Monica Police Department has arrested a Los Angeles man following an early morning hit-and-run that has left a 16-year-old girl in critical condition.

According to SMPD, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Chelsea Avenue and Santa Monica Blvd. at about 2:08 a.m. on Feb. 13 for a report of a car colliding with a bicycle.

When officers arrived, they found the bicyclist, a 16-year-old female, down with severe injuries. Santa Monica Fire Department personnel arrived shortly, rendered first aid then transported the victim to a local hospital where she is currently listed in critical condition.

Following an investigation by the Major Accident and Response Team, officers arrested 29-year-old Maximiliano Ramos Santiago, from Los Angeles, on Feb. 14. He is charged with felony hit and run and driving without a license.

Investigators also towed his vehicle, a black Chevrolet sedan, to be processed for evidence.
