A special outdoor screening of "Western Monarch Butterflies: Protecting Our Pollinators" will take place Friday at Peter Strauss Ranch.
The documentary by filmmaker Ian Nelson highlights the story of Western monarchs and local efforts to protect them.
The event, scheduled from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at 30000 Mulholland Highway, is hosted in partnership with Santa Monica Mountains Fund, Ventura County Resource Conservation District, Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation and the Resource Conservation District of the Santa Monica Mountains.
The evening begins with a meet-and-greet with partner organizations and the filmmaker from 5 to 6 p.m., followed by a Q&A panel from 6 to 6:30 p.m. The screening runs from 6:30 to 7 p.m.

Snacks will be available for purchase, but attendees are encouraged to bring their own picnic and blankets. Proceeds will support monarch conservation efforts by each partner organization.
