The Santa Monica Fire Department will offer Disaster Assistance Response Team training to the Santa Monica community. This one-day course is designed to provide citizens with the skills to save themselves, their loved ones, neighbors or co-workers in the event of an emergency. Because emergency preparedness is such an important issue in the event of a disaster, this fire department-sponsored course is free of charge. The training will be offered on October 26 and will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The course includes hands-on training in light search-and-rescue techniques, shutting off utility connections, rescuer safety and disaster first aid. Participants will also practice putting out fires with extinguishers. The training is open to all adults who live or work in the city of Santa Monica. To enroll in the DART program, please call (310) 458-2221.
