Santa Monica High School's football team will open its season on Friday, Aug. 31 at Santa Monica College against Redondo Union.
Redondo Union is new to Samohi's preseason schedule and they join a list of heavy weights.
Samohi opens the season ranked No. 9 in the first CIF-Southern Section Western Division poll, it was announced on Wednesday.
The Vikings travel to traditional rival Palisades the following week with a murderers' row of Mater Dei, Valencia and Hart awaiting them before Samohi begins Ocean League play.
Samohi is coming off an 11-2 season that saw the Vikings reach the semifinals of the Western Division playoffs where they lost to Ocean League rival Culver City.
Culver City is ranked No. 4 on the poll with Serra holding the top spot.
The season opener against Redondo Union begins at 7 p.m. at Corsair Field.
