Friday night crash sends three to the hospital

A serious car crash hospitalized Santa Monica Police officers and a civilian on Friday night.

The Santa Monica Police and Fire Departments closed the area at Main Street and Pico Boulevard for several hours Friday night at around 8 p.m. after an SMPD vehicle with two officers collided with a truck driven by a single occupant.

SMPD is investigating the scene but had no additional information on the cause of the accident or severity of the injuries.

The crash was one of several last week along the city’s beach roads.

On Tuesday, officers responded to a report of a traffic collision involving a vehicle, an adult pedestrian, and a child on a bicycle near the intersection of Ocean Avenue and Palisades Avenue.

Preliminary information indicates the vehicle was traveling northbound on Ocean Avenue when it collided with the adult and child, who were crossing the intersection. Santa Monica Fire Department personnel responded and transported both to a local hospital for evaluation.

The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
