The Alcohol and Drug Council-High Gain Project is planning a day of family fun on the Santa Monica Pier Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. The event’s theme, “Be A Friend For Life,” is designed to remind local residents of the risks and consequences of driving under the influence.

“Statistics show that alcohol was involved in 41 percent of fatal crashes and in 6 percent of all crashes in 2003,” said Jayne Wise, executive director of the council. “An alarming but true statistic. While our theme is a serious and important one, we always try to make this annual community event as much fun as possible.”

The event will feature live music, fingerprinting ID for kids, face painting, clowns and a treasure chest.
