I am a Santa Monica police officers with 26 of experience working in Santa Monica. I enjoy reading your newspaper and receiving it online. I just read your July 13 edition and noticed several inaccurate “facts” in the Crime Watch section. I know that the facts were inaccurate because I was there and I was part of the investigation. This makes me very skeptical about the accuracy of all articles in your newspaper. For instance, the story about an assault on July 8 in the 2400 block of Main Street. The article says that the suspect “punched” the victim in the face and took another punch at an employee that was asking him to leave. The suspect, Peter Boules, has no arms. He has fake arms and hands attached inside the sleeves of his jacket. Boules becomes very angry when people stare at his fake hands and that is what the assault was about. Boules spit in the victim's face and then assaulted the second victim with his feet, by kicking him. Boules could-n't “punch” anybody if he wanted to. The facts were all there, if your reporter had bothered to read the police report. It can't get much easier than that.

A second story about an attempted armed robbery near Norms on July 4 says that the suspect used a BB gun and was captured in the 900 block of Colorado Avenue between some buildings. The suspect used an "air soft" gun (a kid's toy) that shoots foam bullets and was captured at 1020 Colorado Ave., not between any buildings. These are minor incorrect details, but they are all in the police report.

I expect more accurate reporting from you guys. Thanks for letting me vent.
