St. Monica’s girls’ basketball team lived to play another day by dispatching Milken Community, 51-43, on the road Saturday to advance to the second round of the CIF-SS Division 4A playoffs.

St. Monica’s girls’ basketball team lived to play another day by dispatching Milken Community, 51-43, on the road Saturday to advance to the second round of the CIF-SS Division 4A playoffs.

The Mariners were again led by Briana Harris, who tallied 20 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists in victory. Melissa Maragnes contributed 17 points, 10 rebounds and a pair of blocks.

St. Monica will face the winner of the Brentwood, Whittier Christian game, which will be played tonight.

Round two will take place on Wednesday.

Samohi’s girls fell on the road at Buena, 53-43, on Saturday in Division 1AA play.

Buena advances to take on Etiwanda on Wednesday in the second round.

The playoff run for the Vikings was considerably shorter than last year when Samohi reached the semifinals, losing to eventual champ Mater Dei.
