LET’S ALL TAKE A BREAK FROM THE passion plays of presidential politics, break out the lawn chairs, slather down in SPF 666, pour a long, tall “Arnold Palmer” and I will tell you a story … In January 2007 I was coming home from the beach after a Tai Qi workout and decided to stop at Urban Fitness to replenish my parched meat suit. As I passed One Life Market I spotted a new, pristine green military Hummer parked out front. Not the sissy city Hummer 2 or 3 but the real puddle jumper issued to the military. It had no plates but the license frame squishly intoned “Malibu: A Way of Life”.

It’s owner was a silicone-Botox enhanced former waitress turned actress now Hollywood big wig trophy wife sporting her organic-hemp yoga thong while loading organic produce from the market into the back while her nanny, Consuelo, was strapping the kidlets into the car seats. Obviously, this “eco-tart’s” personal trainer had a lot to do with the crafting of this well endowed snack cake as well as the adherence to a wholesome diet plan replete with the necessary carb/protein/fat ratio that could have fed Zimbabwe.

What’s wrong with this picture, I inquired sotto voce?

The bumper sticker on the back of her tailgate (on the Hummer not her fanny!) postured,“Live Simply So Others Can Simply Live.” I’m sure she thought this through over her wheat grass /Jaegermeister shots while watching “An Inconvenient Truth”

Now let me get this straight, global warming is a hot topic, no pun intended. Currently, automobiles contribute a disputed portion of hot gas \[Hillary and Obama not withstanding\] to the overall planetary malaise, yet the blatant obscenity of driving a vehicle that gets 3 gal/mile to pick up “green” groceries after yoga class while intoxicated with the notion of privilege that negates ones alleged “values” doesn’t make me take the debate from enviro-feebs too seriously. That many of the streetwalking prosthletizers from NRDC and Greenpeace got to work by car (I asked) indicates their vapid cluelessness masquerading as cogent thought. That someone from a pro-environmental NGO wants me to save the planet by eschewing the use of MY car yet got to work themselves by the same mode of travel sounds like they are going to vote for Hillary.

By the way, I eliminated my carbon footprint from the planet as I neither own nor plan to ever purchase a gasoline powered car. I walk or take the Blue Bus … everywhere … to do everything. There isn’t a single reason that anyone’s loved one should fight for a resource that we can drill for in the ANWR (That I support the war is NOT for oil … that, however, is another story).

Al Gore et al. won the Nobel Peace Prize for the material contained in his movie. In the past, former Peace Prize recipients have usually won based on stopping a conflict, brokering a peace or having a BBQ to avoid a donnybrook.

Were we at war with the Eskimos? Did Al stop the raging bloodshed over whale blubber rights and sign a treaty so that everybody could share the blubber and peacefully coexist? Howzabout something a little meatier than blubber like lending a hand in the more visceral issues in, oh say, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Darfur, North Korea, Iran or Myanmar? And if Al needed an update on current violent events in the world, the erst-while inventor of the Internet could go here: www.globalincidentmap.com/home.php Is this an inconvenient “truth?” Spare me any of the bovine scatological sentiments over the “dangers”of global warming. Put on some more sunscreen and a stronger anti-perspirant. If anybody should have won the now tainted “Peace” Prize for work on global warming,it should have been … Ed Begley,Jr.

I like his attitude and his work ethic. He’s a foot soldier. He takes action and doesn’t make movies to plump up a flaccid political career. Even his environmental camps have the slogan, “… take action yourself …” That third word is the most important. This guy is “off the grid” and off the hook. He rides his bike to power his HOUSE and then sells (!) the excess back to the power companies. While Al Gore accepts awards for “enviro-porn,” Ed Begley Jr. is the gold medalist in the Olympic fight against global warming.
