Because of the overwhelming success of last year’s Malibu Creek Trail Challenge, the Trail Runners Club will host the event again this year.

The event was founded last year to raise money for the Kiwanis International Foundation 911 Victims Children’s Fund. More than 500 runners participated in the event, which raised over $12,000.

This year, the proceeds will benefit the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and The Lorsch Foundation. The Palisades-based Trail Runner’s Club is a local running group founded in 1998 and has more than 150 members.

The Malibu Creek Trail Challenge will be held Saturday, May 10 in Malibu Creek State Park. The event includes a 14-mile run and a 4-mile trail run, which both begin at Malibu Creek State Park.

Great views of the Pacific Ocean, stunning rock formations, and beautiful scenery in the Santa Monica Mountains are all part of the 14-mile course. There will be several aid and water stations.

Awards are given for both races to the top three male and female finishers in all age categories. All race participants will receive a race T-shirt.

This event sold out last year, and is expected to sellout again. Advance registration may be completed online at www.active.com. A downloadable application can be printed by visiting the race Web site, at www.trailrace.com. Course map, directions, photos, sponsor listings, and further information can be found on the race website.

Advance registration prices are $25 for the 4-mile event and $40 for the 14-mile event. Online registration closes May 1, or when the event reaches capacity. Applications are also available at local area running stores.

For safety reasons, no walkers, no strollers, baby joggers or bikes are allowed. For more information, call (310)281--6083, or e-mail
