Santa Monica-based Upward Bound House, which provides housing to homeless families with children, celebrated the one year anniversary of its family shelter in Culver City over the weekend.

Since opening in April 2010, the shelter has served 67 families, representing 72 adults and 108 children, said David Snow, executive director of Upward Bound House.

The city of Santa Monica contributed $400,000 in Community Development Block Grant funding to help purchase an old motel and convert it into the shelter.
