The Santa Monica Commission on the Status of Women is looking for new members. Since 1981, the Santa Monica Commission on the Status of Women has worked to eliminate inequality between the sexes in all areas, including employment, health, education, political life and law enforcement. Currently, the board has a vacancy and is seeking persons interested in serving on the commission. Candidates must be residents of Santa Monica and must be committed to improving the status of women through advocacy, education and related efforts. Meetings are held every second Wednesday at 7 p.m., and the public is invited to participate. With a total of nine members, the board makes regular recommendations to the Santa Monica City Council on programs and policies affecting women and girls.

Application forms and information are available in the lobby or in the City Clerk’s office, room 102, at Santa Monica City Hall, at 1685 Main St. You may request an application by mail by calling (310) 458-8211, or you may apply through the city’s public electronic network or Web site at www.santa-monica.org. Applications must be received by 12 p.m. on Dec. 2\. Only those candidates appointed will be notified.
