In support of City Hall’s “Buy Local, Hire Local” campaign, the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District’s facility improvement team, in collaboration with Santa Monica College and City Hall, will be hosting a networking event today to talk about opportunities to bid on construction projects, including those under the school district’s $356 million facility improvement program.

The event will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Lincoln Middle School Auditorium. The goal of the event is to attract qualified individuals and businesses, increase awareness and participation in the “Hire Local, Buy Local” program and to provide networking opportunities for school and public procurement.

The school district’s multi-million dollar program requires a large combination of qualified contractors and professionals.

The school board has adopted a 15 percent business outreach participation goal for its “Hire Local” program. District officials said so far the Measure BB construction program is exceeding that standard by 2 percent.
