St. Joseph’s Center will hold its Second Annual Black History Celebration, complete with soul food, entertainment and slave narratives.

The free event will be held March 6, from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., at 204 Hampton Drive in Venice.

There will be free food, singing, poetry readings, gifts and prizes. Everyone is invited. “Come and share black history with us,” said Kris Eppler, family center coordinator and organizer of the event. “We’ll have soul food, arts and crafts for the children, and all kinds of music.”

More than 150 people are expected to attend. Last year, St. Joseph’s Center helped more than 8,000 homeless and low-income people by providing food, child care, case management, referrals to health care and housing, job training and senior services in Venice, Santa Monica and West Los Angeles.
