A homeless man has been arrested for stabbing another homeless man on Monday morning.

According to a statement provided by SMPD, 29-year-old Michael Montgomery was arrested on March 7 following a fight that left the victim seriously injured.

SMPD said they were called to the Salvation Army (1533 4th Street) at about 1:15 a.m. to investigate an assault with a deadly weapon. Witnesses said Montgomery stabbed, beat and dragged the victim during the altercation. He then tried to leave the area but was seen by several individuals who provided his location to SMPD.

Officers arrested Montgomery at 4th and Colorado. They found a pocket knife in his possession and he was booked for attempted murder and kidnapping. The victim remains in critical but stable condition.
