Hoping it’s not too crowded on St. Paddy’s Day

The Santa Monica Fire Department would like to remind bars and restaurants that on St. Patrick’s Day they need to make sure that they are not letting too many people in.

If businesses — in particular Irish pubs — are overcrowded the fire marshal could shut down the party.

A few reminders:

• A business’ “occupancy load” is limited to what is posted on the occupancy sign issued by the SMFD.

• Businesses must maintain a clear path to all exits, and there can be nothing blocking doorways.

• The SMFD recommends businesses station two people at every entrance/exit so they can count who comes in and who leaves. Keeping track of who comes and leaves is required by the SMFD.

Those with questions should contact the SMFD at (310) 458-8655.
