Hundreds of eager shoppers gathered Friday morning for the grand opening of Vons' newest location, the city's largest full-service supermarket, which welcomed customers with pristine offerings and a community-focused celebration.
The store at 710 Broadway opened its doors at 8 a.m. following a 7:15 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Vons leadership, local elected officials and community nonprofit partners. During the program, the company announced $150,000 in donations to local schools and nonprofit organizations, recognizing grant recipients as part of the celebration.
"We're thrilled to open Santa Monica's largest full-service supermarket and to welcome neighbors into a store designed for how people live, eat and move in this community," said Wayne Denningham, executive vice president and president of Albertsons, Vons and Pavilions. "From our fresh bakery and full-service counters to time-saving pickup, delivery and our new Walk-Up & Go option, we're here to make every shop easier, and more delicious."
The new location featured a full-service bakery, deli, meat and seafood counter, floral department, pharmacy and an in-store Starbucks with a walk-up window unique to the location.
The store also offered multiple shopping options including DriveUp & Go curbside pickup, home delivery and a new Walk-Up & Go service designed for pedestrians to quickly retrieve online orders.
Vons is owned and operated by Albertsons Companies, which operated 2,257 retail stores with 1,720 in-store pharmacies across 35 states and the District of Columbia as of September. In 2024, the company and its foundation contributed more than $435 million in food and financial support to communities nationwide.
