Police prevented an individual from jumping off a downtown parking structure Sunday morning.

The Santa Monica Police Department posted a tweet at 11:22 a.m. Sunday asking people to avoid the area around Parking Structure 3 at 1320 4th St. because a distraught individual was standing on the roof of the parking structure. SMPD tweeted at 11:45 a.m. that officers had resolved the situation and taken the individual into custody.

This is the fifth time someone has jumped or attempted to jump from a downtown parking structure in the past year.

A man died after jumping from Parking Structure 2 at 1235 2nd Street in August and a man who was later identified as music industry executive Gary Stewart died in April after jumping off Parking Structure 7 in Santa Monica Place.

A woman died in December after jumping off Parking Structure 4 at 1321 2nd St. and a man died in September after jumping from the same structure.
