Stableford, a private golf and wellness club built around indoor simulators rather than fairways, will open its 13,000-square-foot flagship clubhouse in West Los Angeles in late 2026, marking the first new private golf club on the city's [Westside](https://www.smdp.com/waitlist-for-home-delivered-meals-nears-100-as-senior-hunger-deepens-on-westside/) in more than 50 years.

Located at 2055 S. Barrington Ave. along the Brentwood-Santa Monica corridor, the club is designed to fold golf into the rhythm of a workweek — early mornings, weekday evenings and social nights — rather than the four hours a traditional round demands. Construction is underway.

The club takes its name from golf's Stableford scoring system and was developed by co-founders Sanjay Mattela and Drake Walker in response to what they describe as a supply gap in one of the country's most undersupplied golf markets.

"It's really a combination of land cost, availability and regulation," Mattela, the club's chief executive, said of the decades-long drought in new Westside clubs. "Building a traditional private golf club on the Westside today would be incredibly difficult."

What has changed, he said, is demand. "Golf has boomed since Covid, bringing a wave of new players into the game and bringing many former golfers back," Mattela said. "That has put even more pressure on an already limited supply of public and private golf."

Rather than build another course, the founders designed the club around what happens between rounds — practice, recovery, meals, drinks and events. Los Angeles has one of the highest concentrations of golfers in California and ranks among the most undersupplied markets in the country, according to the company.

Mattela is quick to distinguish Stableford from the wave of simulator bars and entertainment venues that have expanded in recent years.

"Stableford is fundamentally a private club, not a simulator business," he said. "We care just as much about creating a great place to spend time as we do about the activities themselves."

Membership will be capped in the low hundreds and offered by invitation, following an application reviewed by a membership committee. Referrals from existing members will be prioritized, and founding memberships are limited.

"Other concepts sell an activity by the hour," Mattela said. "We're building a club around belonging, community and a place you genuinely want to spend time."

The clubhouse will feature eight TrackMan simulator lounges designed to feel more like private dining rooms than performance bays, along with one of the largest indoor putting greens in the state, powered by PuttView technology. Interiors were created by the hospitality studio Mazzarini & Co.

Beyond golf, private wellness suites will offer cold plunges, Finnish saunas and large-format red light therapy panels, along with recovery equipment such as massage tools, stretching bands and yoga gear.

The food and beverage program will run from a morning espresso and smoothie bar, with pastries from local bakeries, to an all-day counter serving poke bowls, sushi, grain bowls, wraps and sandwiches. In the evening, the space will turn toward a cocktail menu developed by a principal bartender from Employees Only, the New York bar.

On-site instruction will be led by director of golf Lucas Wald, a swing coach whose clients span entertainment, sports and business. Day-to-day operations will be overseen by General Manager Corey Bross, formerly of Bel Air Country Club.

The founders frame the concept as a lifestyle built around the game rather than a facility for playing it.

"Golf is the foundation, but the golf experience at Stableford is really a lifestyle experience built around the game," said Walker, the club's chief product officer. "It is about creating a place where members want to spend time before, during, and after their round."

Programming will extend beyond the clubhouse to include member events, golf leagues, game nights, culinary experiences and destination golf trips to private clubs and resorts around the country.

"Golf is the anchor, but the goal is to create a home away from home that fits naturally into our members' lives," Mattela said.
