Bike and scooter company Jump has permanently left Santa Monica, a spokesperson for Lime, the company's new owner, confirmed Tuesday.
There are now two private micromobility companies, Bird and Lyft, and a public bike share program, Breeze, operating in Santa Monica. Local officials authorized four private companies to deploy devices in the city in fall 2018.
Lime pulled its scooters out of Santa Monica April 1 and earlier this month acquired Jump from Uber. Jump was losing about $60 million a quarter before the pandemic hit and will receive an $85 million investment from Uber as part of the acquisition.
Bird and Lyft continue to operate in Santa Monica with reduced fleets and are providing free rides for essential workers. The city's Breeze bike share program, which offers docked bikes at stations around the city, is offering free rides up to 90 minutes for all riders during the pandemic.
Upon Jump's departure, officials postponed applications for a second scooter pilot program later this year. Bird and Lyft will be Santa Monica's only authorized operators through May 2021.
