Los Angeles County Chair Pro Tem and First District Supervisor Hilda L. Solis recognized four individuals and one organization for their advocacy and leadership supporting LGBTQ+ communities across the region.

The presentation occurred during the Board of Supervisors meeting following a breakfast reception where Solis emphasized the importance of community visibility and resilience amid rising challenges to LGBTQ+ rights.

"These are deeply challenging times for many in our communities, especially LGBTQ+ individuals, immigrant families, and others who are simply trying to live with dignity, safety, and joy," Solis said. "Coming together today in solidarity and shared purpose is not only meaningful, it is necessary."

Solis honored Emmanuel Estrada, councilmember for the City of Baldwin Park, for his equity-centered leadership and work on behalf of working-class families.

Camila Camaleón, president of the San Gabriel Valley LGBTQ+ Center and director of policy at California Latinas for Reproductive Justice, was recognized for organizing work uplifting queer and trans communities of color.

Hans Johnson, president of Progressive Victory and vice chair of the Los Angeles County Civilian Oversight Commission, received recognition for his civil rights advocacy.

Julia Diamond, vice president of The Music Center Arts, was honored for leadership in making public art more accessible and community-focused.

El Sereno Greengrocer, co-founded by Patricia Torres and Erika Crenshaw, was recognized for promoting food justice and mutual aid.

"Each of today's honorees leads with heart, vision, and purpose," Solis said. "They remind us just how essential LGBTQ+ voices are to the future of Los Angeles County."

Solis highlighted several milestones achieved during her tenure, including creation of Los Angeles County's first LGBTQ+ Commission, expanded access to gender-affirming care, and ongoing efforts to improve services and protections for LGBTQ+ residents.

The recognition ceremony reinforced the county's commitment to supporting LGBTQ+ communities through policy initiatives and community partnerships.
