The LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games launched its volunteer program Wednesday, opening registration of interest at LA28.org more than two years ahead of the 2028 Games in an unprecedented early start for Olympic volunteer recruitment.
The LA28 Volunteer Program, presented by Delta Air Lines, will offer service opportunities throughout the Los Angeles region beginning this year, with Games-time volunteer roles to be detailed in 2026.
"We are not waiting until 2028 to tap into Los Angeles' resilience, generosity and grit," said LA28 Chief Executive Officer Reynold Hoover. "This unique initiative channels the spirit of volunteerism long before the Opening Ceremony."
The program launches earlier than standard Olympic timelines to expand the region's volunteer base and create lasting community impact. Delta Air Lines serves as both Founding Partner of the LA28 Games and Presenting Partner of the volunteer program.
"Delta is proud to stand alongside LA28 to launch a volunteer program that reflects the heart of Los Angeles," said Delta Chief Marketing Officer Alicia Tillman.
Since winning the Games bid in 2017, LA28 employees have participated in more than 100 community events with organizations including YMCA Metro LA, Heal the Bay and Angel City Sports. Recent pilot events with Shine LA and Los Angeles Regional Food Bank helped prepare for the program's official launch.
"The Games would not be possible without the volunteers who are key in shaping the experience of fans and athletes alike," said Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass.
The program features a new custom emblem with colorful shapes representing collaboration and diversity, centered around a heart symbolizing volunteer kindness and selflessness.
Registered volunteers will receive email invitations for specific events based on their location and interests as opportunities become available.
Los Angeles will become the third city to host three Olympic Games, following 1932 and 1984, and will host its first Paralympic Games in 2028. The Games will feature more women athletes than men for the first time in Olympic history and will not build any new permanent infrastructure.
Registration for volunteer opportunities is available at the LA28 Volunteer Program page on LA28.org.
