Organizers of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympic Games on Wednesday unveiled the triathlon courses in the Venice Beach Zone, where the first medals of the LA28 Games will be awarded in the women's individual event.

The loop-style courses wind through the historic beachfront neighborhood. All events will share a single transition area and a finish line overlooking the Pacific coastline.

"This iconic neighborhood will add another meaningful chapter to its storied history as the first LA28 medals of the 2028 Games are awarded here," said Shana Ferguson, LA28 chief of sport and Games delivery officer.

Councilwoman Traci Park said Venice is excited to welcome athletes and fans "to one of LA's most iconic communities."

Organizers said the generally flat bike and run routes should let athletes build speed. Athletes will return to the central transition area after each bike and run lap, so thousands of fans can cheer at key moments.

The women's and men's Olympic individual races are July 15-16, 2028\. For only the second time in Olympic history, athletes will start from the beach rather than a pontoon. The 1,500-meter swim is split into a 1,000-meter lap and a 500-meter lap, with a 25-meter run between them. The 40-kilometer bike leg covers eight 5-kilometer laps along the Venice bike path and city streets. It includes two technical turnarounds and a pass in front of the Venice sign. The 10-kilometer run covers four 2.5-kilometer laps and crosses the bridges of the Venice Canals.

The Olympic mixed relay is July 20, 2028\. Each four-person team alternates women and men. Each athlete completes a 350-meter swim, a 6.6-kilometer bike leg of two 3.3-kilometer laps, and a 1.6-kilometer run of two 800-meter laps. The first athlete starts from a common line on the shoreline. After each handoff, the next athlete runs to the water to begin.

The Paralympic individual races are Aug. 18-19, 2028\. Men and women compete in six sport classes: PTWC, PTS2, PTS3, PTS4, PTS5 and PTVI. They will start from a barge beyond the breakwater and swim one 750-meter lap. They will then ride three 6.6-kilometer laps totaling 20 kilometers and run two 2.5-kilometer laps totaling 5 kilometers.

Athletes can race the courses early at World Triathlon's T50 Triathlon World Tour event in Venice, July 16-18, 2027\. LA28 will use that event to assess course performance and operational readiness, working with World Triathlon and other stakeholders.
