# Legal changes put tenants on the hook for property damage

*CITY HALL If your break it, you bought it.*

Under changes to the laws governing tenant relocation benefits, those found responsible for damaging their apartment, such as causing a fire because of smoking, will not receive money to relocate while the unit is being repaired. Tenants will have to foot the bill.
