Recently I had breakfast at a local Santa Monica restaurant where eight Santa Monica Police officers were also having their breakfast. For a moment, I considered buying them breakfast to thank them for their service. But I reconsidered when I thought they might be among the police officers making over $200,000 a year, and then thought they should be the ones buying my breakfast ("28 cops took home more than $200K," Nov. 26).
