I increasingly have to dodge pedestrians on Santa Monica's sidewalks because they are distracted while phoning or texting while walking. What's even worse are the distracted pedestrians who are phoning or texting while crossing streets. It would take only a couple of seconds for a distracted motorist and a distracted pedestrian to have an accident. One distracted driver and one distracted walker equals one possible accident.
Since many of the distracted pedestrians are teenagers, I suggest that math classes in middle schools and high schools teach that equation: one distracted teenager and one distracted driver equals one potential accident. It could save someone from serious injury or death.
