Letter: In the closet

I have but one issue with this otherwise remarkably balanced article ("Judge denies injunction to display nativity scenes," Nov. 19). The author refers to, "a tactical shift as atheists evolve into a vocal minority... ." But I would seriously question if atheists are a minority at all. Certainly they are not any more than other so-called mainstream belief systems.

The fact exists that most atheists keep their beliefs to themselves, as they find their views generally repellent to those who do not share them. Therefore I would say that there are a great deal more closeted atheists than vocal ones.
