What advice could a father leave his daughters to help them in the journey through life? If you were a father and thought you were on your death bed, what advice would you like to leave for those who are left behind? This collection of 39 letters is sub-titled “Loving, Fatherly Advice and Encouragement for a Difficult Journey.” Even though this book is especially directed to the black community of females it can also be useful for females of any race to read and heed.

This book is divided into three sections. The first section is the spiritual side. Then the second section concerns your mental background. The author suggests to young women that they get their education completed before they get serious and look for a mate. He also suggests, “You expand your mind by reading throughout your life.”

He gives reasons why you should read and suggestions as to what you should read. The third section zeros in on the subject of sex and “dawgs.”

“You need to know how the dawg operates so that you can protect yourself from the dawg.” This is a very important section and young women should pay extra attention. Some dawgs are quite easy to spot.

They may be looking for a conquest yet they want a virgin when they marry. Not that you have to get married. Whyte covers that subject in one of the letters.

> “To black men; never again neglect, mistreat, abuse or hurt a young black woman, because she will never forget what you did to her.” — Mary McLeod Bethune has written, The author has said

> “The True Worth of a race must be measured by the character of its womanhood.”

At the end of each letter is a collection of quotes followed by a Bible verse from the King James Version, a prayer, a suggested book to read, and a Web site.

The purpose for the letters has more to do with prevention. They were written to enable women to operate from a position of strength and power.

Also included is a section on the top 10 colleges for young black women as well as a listing the author calls the Motherboard. He realizes the book is written from a man’s viewpoint and the inclusion of female-centric Web sites gives ladies options on where to get the right feedback. It is said in the Bible that there is wisdom in many counselors.

Whyte, president of Torch Ministries, International commenced penning this from a hospital bed where he was resting up from chest pains. It is good that he recovered and was able to get this published. It is needed for today’s world of young women.

The author has also penned a book for men. It is titled, “Letters to Young Black Men”
