Santa Monica Public Library will host a celebration of women in Marvel Comics on Thursday, July 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Main Library's Martin Luther King Jr. Auditorium.

The event features YALLWEST Book Festival co-founder and Santa Monica-based author Margaret Stohl, along with co-authors Judith Stephens and Jeanine Schaefer, presenting their new book "Super Visible: The Story of the Women of Marvel Comics."

Stohl, author of "The Life of Captain Marvel" and "Black Widow: Forever Read," will be joined by Stephens, producer and co-creator of "The Women of Marvel" podcast, and Schaefer, an acclaimed comics editor.

The book chronicles the history of women superheroes and villains in the Marvel Comics and Cinematic Universes, as well as the women creators who have written, illustrated, edited, produced and directed stories within those realms. The authors describe it as a valentine to devoted comics readers.

The presentation is part of the library's ongoing Summer Reading initiative. The authors' discussion begins at 6 p.m., followed by a book sale and signing.

The event is free and open to the public. The Main Library is located at 601 Santa Monica Blvd. and is wheelchair accessible, welcoming persons of all abilities. Those requiring special accommodations should call Library Administration at (310) 458-8600 at least one week prior to the event.

Attendees are encouraged to arrive sustainably using secure bike parking available for cyclists or riding the Big Blue Bus.
