Lindsey Buckingham attacked by suspected stalker at Santa Monica appointment

Guitarist and vocalist Lindsey Buckingham was attacked by a suspected stalker who threw an unknown substance at him when he arrived for an appointment in Santa Monica on Wednesday.

The woman, who is known to Buckingham from past incidents, entered the building where the 76-year-old musician had an appointment, threw the substance and fled, authorities said. No arrests had been made as of Wednesday afternoon but police have identified the suspect according to unnamed law enforcement sources who spoke to NBC Television.

Buckingham was not injured.

Authorities believe the woman learned the location and timing of Buckingham's appointment before showing up at the building. Santa Monica police and the Los Angeles Police Department are working the case jointly.

Buckingham, born in Palo Alto, joined Fleetwood Mac in 1975. He scored hits with the band including "Go Your Own Way," "Tusk" and "Big Love," and won two Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year for "Rumours." He was dismissed from the band in 2018 following a complicated personal and professional history with bandmate Stevie Nicks.

Buckingham released a solo album in 1981 and collaborated with fellow Fleetwood Mac member Christine McVie on a duet album in 2017.
