Animal rescue organizations will conduct a dog foster workshop Nov. 1 at the Venice Library in response to the huge number of dogs being killed in Los Angeles and surrounding communities.

The Dog Foster 101 workshop runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Venice Library, located at 501 S. Venice Blvd.

Representatives from local rescues, including Forte Animal Rescue and Bubbles Dog Rescue, will participate in the panel discussion. Other panelists include Diane DeStefano, a volunteer at West LA Animal Shelter, along with professional dog trainers Chris Rivas from ProvenK9 and Rehbecca Landman.

Melissa Klaskin will moderate the panel. She is from Reducing Animal Stress, a nonprofit committed to supporting animals in shelters and rescues.

The workshop targets those who love dogs and are interested in fostering but don't know where to start.

Topics include how to get started, preparing your home and what type of dog is right for you.

The Venice Library is located at 501 S. Venice Blvd., Venice, CA 90291. The library's phone number is (310) 821-1769.
